She could make hundreds, perhaps thousands, selling that iron on eBay.

I have met literally thousands of college students during the course of my lifetime and career. NOT ONE went to college for prestige.
I have met literally thousands of brothers in "the truth" during the course of my lifetime, too. A HIGH PERCENTAGE of these "reached out for privileges" because of prestige.

Think the GB Knows much about WT's Financial Holdings? Think Again
by flipper ini missed this point the first time i read ray franz's book " crisis of conscience " 3 years ago.
but it leaped off the page at me the second time around reading it this time.
on page 28 in discussing how secretive the gb meetings are and only rarely will an outsider be let in to gb meetings to give a report- then were sent away out of the room so the gb could continue meeting in secret.. franz in discussing financial issues states on pg.

So if the GB wants to really be in charge they need to follow the advice of Dick in Henry VI and "kill all the lawyers" first?
Seriously, they're in charge of the rank and file. The lawyers are in charge of the corporation. I am sure the GB members, who as far as I know haven't worked or lived in the real world for decades, if ever, defer to the expertise of the worldly-wise attorneys.

I read more Fantasy than SF, personally. In fact, my screen name here is from Gaiman's "American Gods" if anyone was wondering.

So how do the "remnant" die?
by bob1999 inaccording to the "new" light of the wts some of the "remant" will still be alive when armageddon breaks out.. on page 352 of the book "you may survive armegeddon onto god's new world" it says that the remnant has to die so they can be resurrected with a "sprirual body".. .
this sounds like yet another doctrinal discrepancy to me.. .
peace.

They no longer have to die. Noo Lite completely replaces old light. It's as if they never even said the remnant has to die.

WT - 10/15/09 -- Analysis of some choice statements
by sd-7 inthe october 15, 2009 watchtower has some interesting thoughts--some of which have already been discussed at length on the message boards.
i thought i might highlight my personal favorites for discussion.. page 4, paragraph 7:.
"it is necessary that we have self-respect and find joy and satisfaction in our kingdom service.

What's strange is that the Kindgom Halls are FULL of opinionated women. Why? Because the men CAN'T be. Privileges are held over a man's head in the org. Speak the party line or you're on the outs. They can't really do anything to a sister unless she lets them and the strong willed ones just won't let them. Besides, what's some barely literate floor waxer who gets 12 hours a month going to say to a strong smart woman who pulls down 40+ hours a month? HE'S SCARED TO DEATH TO EVEN TALK WITH HER!

What does an MS do?
by deemoo inright... so i've hung around on jwn for a while now, but i simply can't figure out where an ministerial servant stands in the hierarchy scheme of the wts.. there's the r&f or rank & file.. then there seems to be the microphone handlers, sound checkers, donation bin watchers, index card for territory managers, person who is in charge of the books, etc.. then there are elders.
circuit overseers.
bethelites.

For those of you who have been out awhile, take it from one still in (and still a MS!): It's still just as horrible as ever.

If we're talking Heinlein I've got to go with Stranger in a Strange Land.
Another couple authors not yet mentioned are Alfred Bester and E.E. "Doc" Smith. Bester is good solid SF from the golden age and Smith is classic space opera.
I just finished a great piece of SF, The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Bawled like a baby.

Paul kindof stepped over the line more than once
by gubberningbody ini was thinking of the passage at galatians 1:6-8.
"i marvel that you are being so quickly removed from the one who called you with christs undeserved kindness over to another sort of good news.7but it is not another; only there are certain ones who are causing you trouble and wanting to pervert the good news about the christ.8however, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to you as good news something beyond what we declared to you as good news, let him be accursed.9as we have said above, i also now say again, whoever it is that is declaring to you as good news something beyond what you accepted, let him be accursed.".
so that was either hyperbole and irritation on his part and we shouldn't take it or anything else he said in a letter without some careful consideration, or he was seriously out of line in going down that road.. .

Paul's letters are useful as long as you don't take them as gospel.

what time scale do they have left?
by highdose injust reading about a 89 year old man from ohio whos just gone on trial for being a nazi as a young man.
if that generation and the gb is in their 80's- 90's then they really can't have more than 20 years left in them?
how are they going to keep the fiction going about "the geneation" etc if they have all died out?.
-

The "generation" teaching went out the window LONG ago. Someone can correct me on the exact date but it was something like 1994.
They no longer apply the "generation" of Matthew 24 to the old school anointed or anything relating to 1914. It simply applies to any anointed, period. And with the numbers of anointed going up (some even in their 30s at present!) they've got another half-century of wiggle room before another modification could possibly be needed. For all practical purposes, as long as they allow new anointed to eat and drink at the Memorial, they're good to go indefinitely.
Amazing what re-writing the dictionary can do for an organization!
